Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026

Recelio ("we", "us", "the app") helps you scan, store and organise receipts and keep track of return deadlines. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have.

Who we are

Recelio is operated by Kyle Henry, a sole trader based in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK and EU data protection law, we are the "controller" of your personal information. You can contact us at any time at [email protected].

Information we collect

We use your camera and photo library only when you actively scan or upload a receipt. We don't collect your precise location. When you sign up, the app uses your phone's time zone to suggest a home currency — this happens on your device and your time zone is not sent to us.

We don't sell your information, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

How we use your information, and why we're allowed to

Receipts can sometimes reveal things about you, such as the type of shop you visited. We only use receipt details to provide the app's features to you, and we don't analyse them for any other purpose. We don't make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.

How AI scanning works

When you scan a receipt, the photo is sent securely to our AI provider, Anthropic, to read the store name, amount, date, category and return window. Under our agreement with Anthropic, your receipt photos are not used to train their AI models. Anthropic may keep the data for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring before deleting it.

Automated scanning can occasionally misread a receipt. Always check the details it fills in, and refer to the original receipt or the retailer for anything time-sensitive, such as a return deadline.

Who we share your information with

We use a small number of trusted service providers who process information on our behalf and only under our instructions:

To convert foreign-currency receipts, the app requests exchange rates from a public exchange-rate service. Only currency codes are sent — no personal information.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect our rights or the safety of others. If Recelio is ever sold or transferred, your information may pass to the new owner, who must continue to protect it in line with this policy.

International transfers

Some of our providers are based in, or access data from, the United States. Where your information is transferred outside the UK or European Economic Area, we rely on recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or the provider's certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and receipt data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Account & Security → Delete Account). When you do, your account, receipts and receipt photos are permanently deleted from our live systems straight away. Limited copies may remain in our providers' secure backups for a short period before being automatically overwritten.

If you've opted in to marketing emails, we keep a record of your consent so we can show we had it. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to help you.

Keeping your data secure

Data is encrypted in transit. Your receipt photos are stored privately and can only be opened through temporary, signed links that expire. Access rules on our database mean each account can only see its own data. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Storage on your device

The app keeps a copy of your receipt list on your phone so it loads quickly. Return reminders are scheduled locally on your device. Our website does not use advertising or analytics cookies.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have the right to:

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk), or in the EU, the authority in the country where you live (for example, the Data Protection Commission in Ireland).

Marketing emails

We'll only send you launch news, feature updates or other marketing emails if you've agreed to receive them. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also opt out by contacting us. Opting out won't affect account emails, such as password resets.

Children

Recelio is not intended for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from children under this age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Do Not Track

Because we don't track users across third-party websites or services, we don't respond differently to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
